Chartered Accountant Job Description

Overview: We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Chartered Accountant to join our team and take on a leadership role. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in accounting, exceptional communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices. The Chartered Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting team, implementing efficient accounting systems, preparing financial reports, and ensuring strict compliance with state revenue services.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Oversight: Lead and supervise the activities of the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • System Implementation: Develop and implement streamlined accounting systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Regularly reconcile income statements and ensure alignment with general ledger data.
  • Monthly Reporting: Prepare detailed and accurate monthly financial reports, providing valuable insights for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Master Data Control: Oversee and maintain the integrity of master data within the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up to date.
  • Banking Oversight: Review and authorize online banking transactions and payments as needed.
  • Compliance: Ensure all accounting practices align with current state revenue regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ongoing Support: Provide continuous accounting and financial reporting assistance to internal departments and management.
  • Budget Preparation: Develop and maintain comprehensive expense budget reports to monitor financial health and planning.
  • Financial Process Management: Take charge of the entire financial process, from transaction recording to final reporting.

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Must be a full member of either the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) or ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).
  • Audit Qualification: Holding an audit qualification is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Completion of articles and at least 5 years of post-article professional experience in accounting.
  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development): Must provide evidence of a minimum of 20 CPD hours completed in the last year.
  • Tax Compliance: Fully compliant as a tax practitioner with experience in the filing of corporate tax returns.
  • Financial Expertise: Demonstrated experience in providing financial advice and strategic insights to clients or the organization.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in accounting software and systems, such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero.
  • Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders and team members.
  • Analytical Ability: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to assess financial data, identify discrepancies, and implement solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial records and reports.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate an accounting team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Up-to-date understanding of current tax laws, financial regulations, and auditing standards.
  • Confidentiality: Strong sense of professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information.
